Lisa Yarger is the author of Lovie: The Story of a Southern Midwife and an Unlikely Friendship (University of North Carolina Press), a narrative nonfiction book about North Carolina midwife Lovie Beard Shelton that was nearly two decades in the writing. Lisa grew up in Raleigh, studied English at Wake Forest University and earned a master's degree in folklore studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A former curator at the North Carolina Museum of History, she and her family now live in Germany, where they own and operate The Munich Readery, an English-language secondhand bookshop. www.readery.de
